Making money from adsense is quite a controversial since many has experienced being banned or de-indexed by Google. However there are still infopreneurs who are making thousands of dollars (US$) a month from adsense. Here is my story.

I just came back from attending a short workshop on profitable blogging which was held at Federal Holtel, KL. The workshop was conducted by Steven Wong and Melvin Ng. If you have been online for quite sometime and involved in internet marketing most probably you knew these two gentlemen. Both of them has been seriously invloved in online business for more than three years and they are very successful internet marketers.

Steven introduced himself and Melvin Ng to the audience and told how they got involved in internet marketing and he also shared some of their area of expertise.

I was totally surprised to know that both of them does not have any technical background. Steven was a Sales Manager while Melvin was an Accountant by profession before they jumped into internet marketing.

Surprisingly they managed to do something ‘out-of-the-box’, quit their 9-to-5 jobs and did full time working online.

To me this is really breaking all the norms. Normally people who are involved with building websites and blogs are people from technical background with IT and web knowledge. However the decision and effort taken by Steven and Melvin is very motivating. Their success has proven that making money online (make a living online) is really possible and can be done.

During the presentation Steven showed three months income which was earned by Melvin in 2007, the first month was $31k, the second month $22k and the third month around $21k - all just from blogging sites. They confessed that those incomes were from Adsense. Yes, from Adsense via Wordpress blogs only! That income does not include earnings from affiliate sales, ebook sales and and other advertisings.

Wow! I thought generating income from Adsense was difficult and you could only get around less than $100 per month. I’ve tried a few adsense sites but not through blogging… and it only generated less than $20.00 per month so far and sometimes merely $5.00 per month… sigh.

They explained on how they used Wordpress blogs (not Blogger) and how to monitize them.  I could not remember all the gists explained but here are some points that I can recall on how to monitize your blogs with Wordpress,

• Find niches which are profitable
• Find the right keywords
• Buy domain name and web hosting
• Install the blog with selected plugins and good themes (mostly free)
• Post your researched articles regularly
• Generate traffic via web 2.0 and article submission to directories
• Maintain article postings

At the end of the workshop they offered their Profitable Blogging Boot Camp for 2 days with full hands-on. Plus a lot of bonuses which all valued at RM11k. They said in this 2 days bootcamp they will guide the participants on how to get the followings,

• Install wordpress blog
• Choose the best free themes and plugins
• How to find profitable niches
• How and where to find profitable keywords
• What to do and what to avoid
• How to generate traffic to your blogs
• How to monetize with various income and select the best option

.. plus lots of other bonuses… I just could not recall all those bonuses, but the best thing is 2 months later they will conduct 3 brainstroming and coaching sessions to access how the participants are doing. This means that they will make a followup for six months with the participants. This is really mind blowing support from the Team!

They offered the blogging bootcamp for RM2,997.00 with RM500 discout for fast action takers. Wah… I just couldn’t afford the price. I had just used up most of my saving for my two sons University tuition fees for next month (June 08) intake.

Anyway maybe another time I’ll get the chance to attend such bootcamp, and in the meantime I’ll create a few niche blogs using all the infomation and tools available on my hardisk.

I got involved in internet marketing back in 1999. The first ebook that I bought was How To Make Your Site Sell by Dr Ken Evoy. The price of the ebook at that time was around $19.00 (if I’m not mistaken). It was the best ebook at that time and in the following year I bought another two ebooks also by Dr Ken Evoy.

His ebook contents was good and I believe many who bought his ebook and follow his guide became successful internet marketers.

Ohh… that’s eight year ago where you have to read and read and read to learn about internet marketing. Time and technology moves very fast. Today you and I do a lot less reading but we ’see and hear’ more and more to learn something new. Yes, we prefer to see videos and learn a lot more faster than reading ebooks.

Even though any learning is easier with the use of video, the subject matter is still the same. Internet marketing is still internet marketing right from the basic concept to the advance level - the only difference is the method of learning delivery. May be some of you have been wandering why this blog is not updated for almost two months.

It has been exhausting months for me from early November last year. I’ve been working and trying hard to get my new membership site up and running with a new membership script. Gooosh.. the script is so powerful but the learning curve is taking away a lot of my time.

The due date for site completion was over but the site is not fully ready. I still need to write the sales copy and get a few more graphics. Luckily all the script plugins are in place and I’m begining to understand how the whole script work… but the members products still need quite some time to be uploaded and some description of each product need to be ready in hand.

It seems the products upload will be tedious because I’m getting new products every two days. It filling up my hard drive very fast.

The time for lauch need to be deferred because I still need to test every download links and all membership functions. I just cannot test the site alone - I need someone to help me to do the site tests. Membership functions such as,

really need to be tested. I was wandering who will help me in testing these functions.

Are you making money from affiliate marketing? Familiar with these phrases?

“Become our affiliate and earn 50% commission or $98.50 per sale. Sell 1 each day you’ll make $2,955.00 a month, sell 5 each day you make $14,775.00 a month…”

“It’s easy, just sign-up and promote our product to your friends and start making money!”

Those are among the common phrases that you read on the internet about affiliate marketing.

Wow, $14,775.00 is a lot of money! Tell me, who will not fall into this marketing ’seduction’. Who would not want to know
more about making money without having his/her own product, and make $14,775.00 a month in affiliate profit? You can count me in, how about you?

But the not so good part is the reality that is faced by most affiliates. You’re not making any money. You’re still struggling and not even making $100.00 a month in affiliate profit, and most of the time .. $0.00 income from affiliate marketing. It’s really frustrating isn’t it? No?

You has done everything in promoting the affiliate products. You bought traffic and promote through all sorts of advertisement channels you thought of but no one buy the product via your affiliate link. Are you wondering why you’re not making any money?

Let me ask you this question; are you really serious in doing affiliate marketing or just want to make some quick bucks?

If you’re serious and want to make money from affiliate marketing then you must treat affiliate marketing as your-own business. Until the time you take it seriously you’ll not be able to make even close to $100.00 a month.

Don’t tell me that you believe all the hypes saying that putting only 2 hours a day is enough for you to make $14,775.00 in affiliate income every month. Its B.S.
What those marketers don’t tell you is the actual ground work that you must do to put everything in place first.

Signing up and getting your affiliate link is pretty easy but then you must know and have some knowledge about the stuff that you’re promoting. Don’t tell me you’ll just paste your affiliate link and ready to make money.

Even if you’re promoting your affiliate link in a forum, it would take you more than 20 minutes to come-up with something. I mean you’ll have to ‘cook-up’ some juicy information to entice the readers to read and then click your link.

You just cannot put some crappy promotion sentences with your affiliate link in any forum and leave. People will not click and buy from our link without some sort of assurance on something that cost them their money.

They’ll ask questions and sometime lots of questions. You’ll have to answer all the questions raised, then would 20 minutes of your time will be enough? Surely you’ll not be posting to only one forum to promote your affiliate link do you?

If you post to 5 different forums to promote one or two products at any time then you’ll also have to do a follow-up the next day to answer any questions raised. This will easily eat up you time to 2 to 3 hours a day. And that’s not the only thing you need to do to succeed in affiliate marketing.

Again if you’re serious in doing affiliate marketing you must consider a few things so that what you do will pay off well.

• You must be choosy - choose to market a product with real value not just hype. If you promote crappy products people will keep away from you in the future. You mut also try to promote products with high price and high commission payout, like 50% from $197.00

• If you’re promoting your affiliate link in forums, you must make sure that the product must be related to the right forum or you’ll be accused of spamming and get banned. This also applies to ezine and articles promotion, the keyword is related.

• Sincerely share your experience and the benefits you got from using the products. If you’re just promoting without buying or using it then you must put your words in such a way as if you had been using the product. You need to do a lot of finding and reading from other sites.

• It is better to put up a review site and direct readers to your review site first and then to the product (vendor) site through your affiliate link. This method is also known as pre-sell. Give some introduction about the product and the benefits that you have (or pretend
  to have) gained using the product but not to go over board . The keyword is pre-sell.

• Marketing strategy - There are many strategies that you can choose from but I personally recommend you to adopt a more aggressive approach using Affiliate-X Strategy. This strategy needs you to use google adwords - means you have to research keywords and then do the bidding in google system. But please be warned - you need your credit-card ready and in the first phase you’ll be whipping even up to $200.00 a day in adwords campaign. This strategy is not for the ’small hearted’ marketer. (Please note: I read this book but I’m not using adwords campaign to promote affiliate products).

• You must learn the skill in finding good related keywords if you’re promoting through adwords.. and you must have at least one keyword tool. As an internet or affiliate marketer you must use highly reliable and proven keyword tool. The best is Word Tracker but it cost you recurring monthly fees. You can download Word Tracker for a free trial.

• You can also get a multi-purpose keyword tool, Keyword Elite which has also been proven to be very effective and used by many top internet marketers. Not only its give you hundreds of possible keywords with KEI also you can spy how much is the current competing bid price. It’s highly recommended by most marketers.

As marketers you must track you promotions to enable you to make necessary steps to improve the conversion (tracking is another area to look into seriously).

You must treat affiliate marketing as you own business and work up you own targets and plan. Remember the Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) cycle?

What, you just jumped into the internet business without a business model? Then what happened? Running all types of internet business but still struggling?

I think I know the answer… you had wasted a lot of your time online and the bad part is most of your 9 to 5 income goes down the drain with the so called ‘internet business’.

You’re not making the money you had expected. You are frustrated and feel betrayed by all the good promises you read about earning a lots of money online. Oh boy… what when wrong?

At this juncture there will be two types of personality. The first is the person who will lost all hope in making money online and gave up. The second is the person who is not easily deterred to go forward and take another try and…

…which type of person do you belong to? I just hope that you’re of the second type who never ever give up.

Yes never give up, but first you must put everything it is perspective. You must have the passion on what you’re doing. You must make it clear and be truthful to yourself – are you’re doing online business for fun or profit? Going for both? Really.?? But can you have fun if you failed? So it’s fun only if you’re making a lot of profits but it’s HELL and no fun altogether if you’re slapped with credit card debt from your online business.

Again, if only you’re the kind of person that never gives up easily sooner or later you’ll be making the money you has been dreaming all the while. It’s not difficult to make money online – just copy any proven method that has been used by other succesesful marketers, it’ will work. But, first you must decide which business model you want adopt.

There are a lot of online business models, all you need is to choose one or two which is of your passion and you feel that you will be really enjoy working on it. As an example, doing business on ebay.com is totally different a model if compared to running a membership site, and running a one time firesale promotion is different from making money from adsense sites.

You must know the differences among these business models that are available and choose one or two which you love most. I bet that you cannot do all at once. It’s better to concentrate on one business model and make a lot of money from it rather than trying to go all round but not making enough profit to pay your bills…(LOL… that’s me.. ha ha ha…).

Ok, now let’s see the types of model that you can adopt to make money online. The models that I can think of right now,

1. Selling digital product on your own site ( can be your own products or other people products).
2. Selling digital products or tangible products on auction sites such as ebay.com.
3. Affiliate marketing – promotes other people products and earn commission
4. Run sites/blogs with paid advertisement such as adsense, adbrites, textads, etc.
5. Run directories and charge listing fees.
6. Run classified ads sites (check my site)
7. Create paid membership sites (check my site – free to join)
8. Offer your service – writing articles, creating graphics or websites
9. Selling leads from your sites.

You get the idea? Ok, for now why not sit back and think it over. You must ‘study and calculate’ the pro and cons – the time, money and effort that you’ll be putting in – including the learning curve which is time consuming.

Hey, it’s better to study the model now rather than to be jumping in and out of different models later and waste a lot of you hard earned money and time (this is my bad experience… anyway it’s a good living example for you).

It doesn’t matter if the model you chose is not the same with someone who is successful that you had just read. Go and find success stories on the model that you chose to keep you exited and moving… with passion.

I hope you got my message, choose your business model wisely and read materials which are related to the model that you chose. Avoid reading too much about other models at the same time since this will distract your concentration and thinking on the model that you had adopted or plan to adopt. Remember the first posting of information overload?

Often I took this advice lightly until the ignorance became a habit not to get the right mindset in place before performing any task or assignment. By right mindset here I mean that I just do things simply to get it done quickly before moving to another task.

I don’t know what you think about this, but after going through years getting things done like this I finally found out that the results of my job performance is just above average or 60% to 75% if I put it in numbers.

Not only my yearly job performance is just above average it’s even worst with my part-time online business. Although I got a lot of resources at hand and do a lot of reading on IM but my sales still couldn’t pay my internet bills.

More than a year back I got 5 websites running and selling different items and packages but sadly the traffic just passed with only a few conversions. When the hosting period expired I have to abandoned 4 of these sites. The sales was not enough to cover the hosting fees. I failed to make any profit online.

This makes me feel like a ‘fool’. I said to myself, ‘how come other people are making money online everyday but I’m not? Hey something is not right here. If other people are laughing to the bank while I’m still struggling to make a few sales then something is definately wrong somewhere’.

I decided to take a break from this so called part-time business. But, as you know it’s difficult to dissociate myself with my PC. Somehow or rather I’ve been ‘addicted’ to my PC and internet.

Luckily during this time my internet connection has to be disconnected since I have to move to my new house that I’ve just bought. My house is located in a new housing area which has no physical access to the internet.

Do you know how I feel without internet connection? Yeah… its a lot of BLUES kind of feeling, so much blues. But after much thought I think this is a blessing in disguise.

During those blue period I kept sifting through my harddisk finding some magic formula. God must have granted my prayer. I accidentally click to an old folder which was embedded beneath another 2 folders.

Huh… and old pdf report … date?… no date but I think it was published before year 2003. I glanced the report quickly but then my eyes spotted this sentence, “Thought (or lack of thought) leads to action (or inaction) which always leads to results.” Something just strike my mind, “ahaa… lack of thought leads to bad results”.

Oh my God, I had been putting up websites in hope of generating extra income too quickly without giving a thorough thinking and good planning. Thats why the sites were not getting the sales as expected.

Now I realised that without the right mindset at that time I failed to give a good thought for the project without realising the consequences. I just went forward and built those sites ‘just to get things done‘. Sighh…now I realised that just to get things done without a clear thought and plan is a suicide!

Hey, I’ve to start all over again and yes I’m back to a newbie on IM (but an old newbie, LOL!).

For you newbies out there, before getting on IM it’s always a good to start to have the right mindset first then followed by your action planning and objectives.

Sounds familiar with the title? Well, this happened to me. Although I started to get involve in IM more than one year but I still failed to make a decent income from the internet.

Oh God, luckily after taking a long break from the internet I realized that something must have gone wrong somewhere because I’m not making the amount of money I dreamed off and not even a small fraction of the ‘guru’ of the site that I bought the loads of PLR products.

I was too busy collecting loads of ebooks & software and reading ebooks and sites on subjects to make money online, but forget to get started with the basic rule of thumb - to set a target and make a plan.

Yes, this is what I call information overload. Too much reading and opportunities that slammed my inbox makes me lost on the way. Reselling PLR ebooks, monetizing adsense sites, promoting affiliate programs, blog advertising, membership sites,… ohh… its all a hell of opportunities - and I fell into this trap.

One thing that also contribute to this menace is that I always wanted to put up a complete and good looking website with good scripts just like the ‘gurus’ sites but then again slapped with not enough fund in hand.

Recently I signed-up as a free member with affiliatecashsecrets and lucky to be able to download a complete step-by-step audio course on making money on the internet without any websites or products. After hearing the audio I got inspired to start-off something that had long been overdue.

Well thanks God, I finally got some funding (from wife) and today I’ve finalized my IM target and plan and hopefully I get the strength to follow the plan and make some decent income on the internet, of course not so soon but I expect everything will start to be in place in around 3 months time.
